In a discussion a few days ago, Mandy Vavrinak made an observation that I promised to write about. She has a knack with words and can typically apply precise wording to a particular effort or idea. She said I was “at war with apathy.”

The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines apathy as:

  1. A lack of feeling or emotion
  2. A lack of interest or concern

Wikipedia defines apathy as: Complete lack of emotion or motivation about a person, activity, or object; depression; lack of interest or enthusiasm; disinterest. [click to continue…]

This is part 4 of the series on Strengths.  We talked about how your strengths can be identified by three questions:

  1. Energy – What energizes you?
  2. Talent – What gifting or abilities do you have?
  3. Passion – About what do you truly care?

How strong is your passion?

There are things about us that no one else knows.  There are places inside us where thoughts and actions happen.  Beliefs appear and disappear.  Some of this is influenced by outside forces — just look at the prevailing opinions about smoking in the last generation.  People used to think smoking was cool.  Old movies are filled with cool stars lighting up cigarettes.  So prevailing opinion has an input into the inner convictions we have.
